Outlander GT Prototype
Mitsubishi's next-generation Outlander will look a lot like this concept.
We enjoyed the On Wheels long-term Mitsubishi Outlander, and the folks at the diamond-star brand are poised to make the compact crossover even more enjoyable. The Outlander GT Prototype is a predictor of the next-generation Outlander that shows off a number of upcoming features.
Most notable is the new face, which takes some inspiration from the current Evo super-sedan. The gaping jet-fighter maw and reshaped headlights give the Outlander GT Prototype a new, aggressive look that's complemented by a lowered stance and a lightweight brushed-aluminum roof panel. The alloy roof also offers enough weight savings to lower the Outlander GT Prototype's center of gravity.
Pulled down tight over nineteen-inch OZ Racing wheels, this CUV is ready to hit the road. Mitsubishi has increased the power output of the 3.0 liter SOHC V6 under the hood to 230, and the engine has been tweaked for more efficient running. Mitsubishi's terrain-sensing Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system puts the power to the road. The system collects data from the throttle, steering, stability control, anti-lock brakes and other vehicle systems to re-distribute power where it's needed most. Mitsubishi claims that S-AWC can also enhance cornering stability and turn-in.
